Los Blancos suffered a major defensive setback last year when they lost Dani Carvajal and Eder Militao to long-term injuries in October and November respectively. The situation has now worsened as current first-choice centre-backs Rudiger, who suffered a muscle injury, and Alaba, who endured an adductor injury, have been ruled out of action for close to three weeks.

The news comes as a major blow for the Spanish champions, who are scheduled to face Atletico Madrid and Manchester City in the next seven days. With the manager providing a timeline for Rudiger and Alaba's injuries, one of Jacobo Ramon and Raul Asencio will pair up with make-shift centre-back Aurelien Tchouameni at the heart of the team's defence.
WHAT CARLO ANCELOTTI SAID
Speaking to reporters, the Italian coach said: "We are in an emergency, as both Rüdiger and Alaba will be out for 20 days. The only options at centre back are Jacobo Ramón, Raul Asencio and Tchouameni."
