It has been an odd three seasons for Manchester City under Manuel Pellegrini.
A Premier League title win, two League Cups and an appearance in the last four of the Champions League is a satisfactory return for a club who are still finding their feet as an elite European force.
However, with the Chilean boss departing and the much heralded Pep Guardiola set to take the reins, there will be no more excuses for failure.
One thing that is guaranteed to happen at the Etihad this summer is a reshuffle of a squad that is ageing and in need of a facelift.
ith a larger budget than he has ever been faced with before, who will Pep Guardiola bring to Manchester and who will he be asking to leave?
Here are the three most likely arrivals at the Etihad this summer, along with the three most likely to depart…
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang – IN
Last week saw Manchester City announce a shock move for Dortmund star man Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
News of the potential move has cooled since then, with City now questioning whether they want to break the British transfer record to procure their man.
Still, there is no striker more in-form in world football than Aubameyang and if Guardiola wants his new team to become a true force, he may have to break the bank to secure the Gabonese forward.
Leroy Sane – IN
Leroy Sane may well be the most talked about young star in Europe right now, and Man City have taken note of the German’s abilities.
Currently in France with his national team, Sane is a tricky attacking midfielder with bags of potential and his best years well ahead of him.
It is thought that Shalke may want upwards of £30million for their young prodigy, something that Pep may well be willing to pay.
Aymeric Laporte – IN
Arguably the best young central defender outside of the European elite clubs, Aymeric Laporte has had yet another excellent season at Athletic Bilbao.
Man City may have been momentarily rebuffed, after the young Frenchman signed a new contract with Athletic this week.
However, some sources believe this is to increase the value of the 22-year-old, who now has a reported €52million release clause in his contract.
Expect City to continue their relentless chase.
Wilfried Bony – OUT
It has been a severely disappointing 18 months at Manchester City for Wilfried Bony. With a hefty transfer fee hanging over his head, Bony has scored just six league goals in nearly 40 appearances.
There have been reports suggesting that the Ivorian could be heading back to former club Swansea, but those rumours were quickly rebuffed by the Welsh club.
Still, if Guardiola brings in one or two striking options, expect Bony to look elsewhere for first team football.
Samir Nasri – OUT
A lengthy list of injuries and some disappointing performances have stifled Samir Nasri’s last two seasons at Manchester City.
However, the 28-year-old believes that he still has plenty to offer at the Etihad and was quoted as saying that Guardiola would be “a lucky man to have me” at the end of last season.
Still, with Pep set to reshuffle his options and Nasri slowly falling down the pecking order at the Etihad, a move elsewhere may be on the horizon for the Frenchman.
Eliaquim Mangala – OUT
You would be hard pressed to find a defender more vilified in his first two Premier League seasons than Eliaquim Mangala, whose steady improvement since arriving in 2014, does not make up for the countless mistakes he has made.
With new boss Pep Guardiola looking to revamp the centre of Man City’s defence, Mangala looks to be heading out of the Etihad.
However, expect City to make a significant financial loss on the Frenchman.
