Aston Villa fans experienced a terrific 2018/19 campaign under Dean Smith, who eventually oversaw their promotion back to the Premier League.
However, if he hadn’t been appointed and Steve Bruce had stayed, it appears incredibly unlikely the same story would have occurred.
The former Sheffield Wednesday boss resigned from his post with the Owls this week after Newcastle held talks with him about their vacant managerial job.
And with the Magpies looking to appoint him, Villa fans have used it as an excuse to rip into the 58-year-old.
One supporter commented that he hopes he crashes and burns in Tyneside whilst another said he treated the fans like a disgrace when he was at Villa Park.
Another supporter labelled him as a horrible liar as certain segments of the Villa faithful mercilessly ripped into him.
Bruce led the Villans to the play-offs during the 2017/18 season but was then sacked after a poor start to last term.
He took charge of 102 games in the Midlands and won 1.60 points per match – a tally that happens to be one of the best in his career to date.
Despite that, it doesn’t appear as though there’s been much love lost between him and supporters.
Here’s some of the reaction.
