According to reports from The Telegraph, Everton have seen a £40million bid rejected by Swansea City for midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson.
The 50-cap Iceland international was in exceptional form for the Welsh outfit last season, bagging nine goals and 13 assists in the top flight to steer his side clear of relegation almost single-handed, and with Ross Barkley expected to leave Goodison Park this summer, he represents an exciting replacement.
However, the Swans have made it clear they won’t be bullied into letting Everton sign the 27-year-old on the cheap – in fact, the club’s owners have already made insinuations of tapping up.
But before reports of Everton’s failed bid surfaced, we asked Toffees supporters how much they thought the attacking midfielder was worth. And according to our poll, only 33% of Everton fans think he’s worth over £40million, with 19% valuing him between £40million and £50million and 14% rating him in excess of £50million.
That suggests the majority of Everton fans wouldn’t back their club placing even more money on the table. Is Ronald Koeman better off seeking a cheaper alternative? Let us know by commenting below.
